“In this corner of the Val d’Orcia there is a huge stone that seems to have fallen out of the sky: she is the ancient guardian of our vineyards.
Kissed by the sun at the top of the hill she watches the rows flowing down the valley, she watches the vines reflected in the lake, she watches the changing seasons and she watches the vintner’s hands at work whatever the weather.
Our wines originate in this fairytale landscape which is both soft and austere, it gives them their special minerality, particular character and enjoyable flavours.

Territory

The Val d'Orcia is a series of gentle, multicolored hills, framed by cypresses and cultivated with vineyards and olive groves, where castles of medieval origin and historic villages such as Pienza, San Quirico d'Orcia, Castiglione d'Orcia and Montalcino lie.

Climate

The vineyards of Valdorcia Terre Senesi are located about 500 m above sea level. The climate is warm and temperate, with a more severe rainfall in winter than in summer. July is the driest month, while November is the month with the highest amount of rainfall.

Land

The soil consists mostly of Galestro, a clayey rock that tends to break up easily into thin slabs. Its draining properties do not allow the growth of weeds and keep the roots dry, encouraging the practice of organic farming.

Vines

Our grapes are 80% sangiovese, 12% cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and merlot, and 8% colorino, pugnitello, ciliegiolo and round leaf. From 2019 also vermentino, grechetto and at the highest point of the estate riesling.

Taste

Our grape varieties allow us to have blends of strong character and great quality. They range from the soft, persistent and balanced taste of Bucaccio, to the soft and intense one of Ripario to the complex and enveloping one of Sornione.

Cellar

In our cellar the wine is fermented in steel casks at controlled temperature and then aged in oak barrels of various toastings, and then finally refined in the bottle.
